Putting PESSPA at the Heart of Every School

At White Rose, we believe that Physical Education, School Sport, and Physical Activity (PESSPA) should sit at the very centre of school life. The benefits speak for themselves improved physical health, social and emotional wellbeing, behaviour, academic performance, and a stronger sense of belonging for every child.

We understand that schools face increasing pressures on time and budgets, which is why our approach is designed to be both high-quality and sustainable. Our expert coaches deliver engaging PE sessions that not only inspire pupils but also support teacher confidence and professional development (CPD) helping staff feel equipped and motivated to lead outstanding PE long after our sessions end.

PRIMARY OPTIONS

Many primary teachers report feeling underconfident in their PE knowledge and delivery a challenge that can make teaching such an important subject feel daunting. With only a quarter of schools rating their PE lessons as “good,” in an Ofsted survey, it’s no surprise that confidence is low and enthusiasm can sometimes fade. Yet PE plays a vital role in supporting children’s physical, mental, and social wellbeing and every teacher deserves to feel equipped to teach it with pride. That’s where White Rose comes in.

Empowering Teachers Through Our Primary PE CPD Programme

Many primary teachers report feeling underconfident in their PE knowledge and delivery a challenge that can make teaching such an important subject feel daunting. With only a quarter of schools rating their PE lessons as “good,” in an Ofsted survey, it’s no surprise that confidence is low and enthusiasm can sometimes fade. Yet PE plays a vital role in supporting children’s physical, mental, and social wellbeing and every teacher deserves to feel equipped to teach it with pride.

That’s where White Rose comes in.

Our Primary PE CPD Programme has been carefully designed by experienced professionals to boost teacher confidence and competence in as little as six weeks. Through a supportive, hands-on approach, we empower teachers to deliver high-quality, engaging PE lessons that inspire every child while reducing workload and building lasting knowledge.

Our CPD Programme Helps Teachers:

  • Build subject knowledge and practical teaching skills.
  • Gain confidence to deliver fun, inclusive, and progressive PE sessions.
  • Feel empowered and supported, with resources and guidance from expert coaches.

At White Rose, our goal is simple to help teachers and pupils alike reach their full potential through outstanding PE delivery.

Our CPD Programme: Building Confidence Step by Step

At White Rose, our three-part Primary PE CPD Programme is designed to be active, engaging, and teacher-centred empowering teachers to take ownership of their own professional learning. Through goal setting, action planning, and reflection, we help every participant progress at their own pace while developing the confidence and skills to deliver high-quality PE with ease.

  1. Observation
The learning journey begins with expert modelling.
A White Rose Coach leads the first two lessons of the unit, managing all aspects of planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation. By observing high-quality PE and sport in action, teachers can identify best practices, techniques, and teaching strategies that align with their personal goals. This stage sets the foundation for growth and collaboration with their dedicated White Rose Mentor.
  1. Team Teaching
Next comes shared delivery and deeper understanding.
In this phase, the White Rose Mentor works alongside the teacher to co-plan, co-teach, and evaluate sessions together. This hands-on experience allows teachers to ask questions, explore ideas, and gain a stronger understanding of what makes great PE teaching all while broadening their subject knowledge and confidence in real time.
  2. Teacher-Led Sessions
    Finally, teachers take the lead.
With growing confidence and clear goals, the teacher plans and delivers their own session while the White Rose Mentor observes, provides constructive feedback, and supports fine-tuning of their practice. This stage ensures that teachers feel fully prepared to lead high-quality PE independently.

Ongoing Support

The learning doesn’t stop there.
After completing the programme, we provide a comprehensive report that includes planning, evaluation, and development notes for future reference. Our team also offers ongoing, flexible support to ensure teachers continue to feel confident, capable, and inspired in their PE delivery long after the programme ends.

High-Quality PPA Cover and Sports Provision

At White Rose, we have the expertise, experience, and passion to deliver exceptional PPA cover in primary schools. Our coaches plan and teach using detailed, progressive schemes of work that align with the National Curriculum, ensuring structured and engaging lessons for every age group.

Each programme is tailored to your school’s unique needs, guaranteeing that every child aged 5–11 enjoys two hours of high-quality PE each week delivered through fun, inclusive, and skill-focused sessions.

Comprehensive Sports Delivery

White Rose takes pride in providing a wide range of PE and sport opportunities, including:

  • Team sports coaching – building skills, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Breakfast, lunchtime, and after-school clubs – engaging children in active, enjoyable sessions before, during, and after the school day.
  • Evening sessions and enrichment activities – supporting extended learning and community engagement.

Our goal is simple: to provide exciting, development-focused experiences that help children thrive physically, mentally, and socially.

Flexible Sports Supply Cover

We also offer reliable, high-quality sports cover to support your school whenever extra provision is needed. Each of our fully qualified Level 2 Sports Coaches is friendly, professional, and fully prepared arriving with lesson plans and a deep understanding of the National Curriculum.

Our team works closely with schools to provide flexible, short- or long-term cover that ensures continuity of learning and peace of mind.

Breakfast and After-School Clubs

We believe the best days start and finish with activity!
Our breakfast clubs give children an energetic, positive start to their day, improving focus and concentration for lessons ahead. Each session offers fun, stimulating activities that promote a healthy, active lifestyle.

Meanwhile, our after-school clubs extend learning beyond the classroom, helping children to build on PE skills developed during school hours or simply discover the joy of movement. From competitive team sports to inclusive games, we encourage every pupil to participate, connect, and grow.

At White Rose, we believe that every child deserves the chance to experience the joy, confidence, and life skills that come from physical activity. Our Primary SEND & Low Activity Funding programme is designed to make this possible by subsidising external PE and school sport sessions for schools.

This programme is aimed at children who are eligible for free school meals, have an EHCP, or who your school identifies as potentially vulnerable. By removing some of the barriers to participation, we ensure every child has the opportunity to engage in sport and physical activity.

We understand that PE lessons can sometimes be a source of anxiety, particularly for children with confidence challenges. That’s why our sessions are led by two incredibly special team members, Leon and Ahsan. Both grew up facing their own challenges in school, yet their love for sport and physical activity never wavered. Now, their mission is to ensure all children have the chance to enjoy, succeed, and thrive in sport, regardless of ability or background.

Every session funded through this programme is carefully planned and tailored to each group, promoting maximum enjoyment, building physical literacy, and inspiring a lifelong love of activity. While the programme doesn’t cover the full cost of sessions, it significantly reduces financial barriers, making it easier for schools to provide opportunities for the children who need them most.

What schools are saying:
“The feedback we have had from class teachers has been fantastic. Lots of children have been recognised for engaging more within whole-class PE lessons and showing an interest in representing the school at external fixtures where they hadn’t before.”
– Jake Shepherd, Baildon C of E
